Maidstone Drainage

This project was spread over 3-holes and had the results were truly a win-win. It created better playing conditions, and reduced our well water use by collecting stormwater runoff.

This was accomplished through a subsurface drainage system with perforated pipes that connected to underground vaults which pump collected water into the irrigation reservoir.

Croquet Lawn at Maidstone

We transformed a area of mowed rough and added another sporting activity for members. Grown from aeration cores and seed in the early-April, it was open for play in mid-July. The level site is also a great venue for weddings.

Dune Conservation

On holes 8 and 9 sand dunes are used as the main hazard by the course’s design. To protect them we annually replant them with native beach grass to revegate bare areas. This helps them maintain a formidable barrier between the course at the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Cart Path Routing/Construction

Maidstone has natural cart paths constructed with a base of recycled concrete (RCA) and then topped with a mix similar to a baseball infield.

We worked in the off seasons to better route these paths so that did not come into play or view as much as possible.

Pictured is the 5th hole.

Aronimink Internship

The two summers spent at Aronimink Golf Club followed extensive work in the fall/winter where every tee box was rebuilt, six acres of fairway were added, and along with reclamation green square footage. It was a great experience in helping to grow in large areas of new turfgrass.

Annual Bluegrass Weevil

In Spring 2019 I assisted Dr. Ben McGraw and his lab at Penn State in scouting and collecting ABWs at several golf courses in Central/Western Pennsylvania. I also assisted in laying out various research trials. This experience helped me learn more about the most prevalent pest of short mown turfgrass in the Northeast.

Tree removal

At the Penn State Golf Courses we removed over 150 deceased and diseased trees during the winter. The tree removal was not only for safety but improved mountain vistas and agronomic conditions.
